Harvey Scott

October 5, 1953 - November 24, 2012

Harvey Randall Scott, 59, of Lexington, went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 24, 2012 at his residence following a brief illness.

Born October 5, 1953 in Mansfield, Ohio, he was the son of Rexford R. Scott, Sr. and Dora E. (Harrison) Scott. An area resident all of his life, he was a 1972 graduate of Malabar High School and retired from Smurfit Stone Container following 32 years of service. He and his wife, Barbara, were foster parents to 70 children through Richland County Children Services. He was a member of Real Life Community Church and Sons of Herman and enjoyed fishing, wrestling with his grandchildren and preparing breakfast for his family. A man of integrity, he was a fun loving gentle giant who was strong physically as well as emotionally.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Barbara (Butterbaugh) Scott; two sons, Travis (Stephnie) Scott of Bucyrus and Spencer Scott of Mansfield; a daughter, Alisha (Chad) Anable of Mansfield; seven grandchildren, Kael Scott, Gabriel Kraft, Paul Scott, Christopher Scott, Anna Scott, Gavin Anable and Bryce Anable; two sisters, Cheryl (Chuck) Wheeler of Mansfield and Wendy Krieger of Ashland; four brothers, Rex (Debbie) Scott, Jr. of Mansfield, Gary (Rita) Scott of Tennessee, David (Debby) Scott and Randy (Terry) Scott both of Mansfield; four brothers-in-law, Greg and Tim Butterbaugh both of Colorado and Brian and William Butterbaugh both of Pennsylvania; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Beulah and Otto Strong; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Darryl and Timothy Scott; a niece, Karey Scott; a great nephew, Caleb McMillen; and his father-in-law, Raymond Butterbaugh.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Phil Green. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
