Stuff from 1972

Do you remember any of these, or worse, did you own any?

The Ford Pinto was introduced in 1971 as competition for the new import and domestic subcompacts. Designed to be a simple car that Ford could produce with little time and money spent to redesign and retool every couple of years. Those efforts were needed for the changes made on other Ford cars to meet with new government safety regulations and for better fuel economy.

Hush Puppies claimed their rubber soles saved the life of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards when he accidentally touched his guitar against an ungrounded microphone at a 1965 concert in Sacramento, California. Richards was knocked unconscious, but medics believed that the crepe-soled Hush Puppies shoes he was wearing insulated him and saved his life.

In the 1970s, bell-bottoms moved back into mainstream fashion. Sonny and Cher helped popularize bell-bottoms in the US by wearing them on their popular television show. The pants were typically flared from the knee down, with bottom leg openings of up to twenty-six inches. Made from denim, bright cotton and satin polyester, they were so popular that they became a symbol of the outlandish and colorful style of the decade.

The Fender Telecaster....some things never change. But sadly, fewer and fewer kids are learning to play them.
